Louis Orr Etching More Pictures of this Louis Orr Etching Product Details   This wonderful Louis Orr etching is a consignment item from a dear friend, she purchased this from the original owner. This piece is an original piece or art it has been authenticated at Gil Rumsey's Studio in Overland Park, Kansas. It is in good condition. Mr. Orr only created 100 of this view of the cathedral in France. This was drawn when the cathedral was actually under siege during the war. This is a very large etching. Overall, in the frame it measures 32" X 27 1/4". The etching measures 21" X 25 1/2". It is in a plain black frame is is matted. The piece has been adhered to the mat but with proper restoration can be unadhered. (see the photos on the next page) Above Louis Orr's signature is additional text including his name that I have been unable to make out. I feel pretty certain that it is the location of this etching. A gentleman from New York who collects Louis Orr and has done an amazing amount of research on his work sent me a wealth of information on this amazing and underrated artist. Price: $950.00 Quantity in Stock: 1 Contact me for shipping costs Artist LOUIS ORR (1879-1961). Louis Orr is universally recognized as one of the outstanding painter-etchers of the 20th century. According to his nephew John, Louis was asked by the French government to make an etching of the Arc de Triomphe because they were afraid that it would be destroyed by the German troops. After completing his studies in Paris, Orr stayed on to record WWI's devastation of the city's landmarks in his prints, which won for him membership in the French Legion of Honor (John has this medal). Louis Orr was also commissioned by the Department of the Beaux Arts to make an etching of the French entering Strasbourg, which was shown in the Paris Salon. His etchings are represented in numerous major public collections worldwide, including: the Louvre, the Luxemburg Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Public Library, the Morgan Memorial Library, the Boston Museum, the Smithsonian Museum and Yale University. South Carolina also has a gallery dedicated to Louis Orr. Prior to his moving permanently to France he was commissioned to do several works in South Carolina. According to Louis Orr's family, when Louis was a young boy he was one of the first people to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge after it was built. Louis's nephew has a self portrait of Louis Orr.
