My Granny's Attic Antiques, Collectibles & Custom Gifts

February 2004

I hope that this newsletter finds you happy and healthy. All is well here in the Midwest. We still have about 5 inches of snow on the ground left over from a 9 inch snowfall last week, which was absolutely beautiful. I built a snowman for the first time in atleast 10 years and it was so much fun. I highly recommend it for everyone who has the opportunity to do so.  I used fruits and vegetables for the facial features so that the birds and squirrels could have some food. Our high temperature is in the mid 20's, which is a little too frigid for my thin native Texan blood but that is okay, I don't have to venture out in it very often.

It has been awhile since my last newsletter due to several reasons. My 15 year old let a computer virus invade her computer and I was afraid to send out e-mails to anyone, our computers are hooked together on a network. It took me several weeks to get the virus completely cleaned up. I have also made some pretty radical changes in my personal life … after 13 years of volunteering for a local non-profit organization I made the decision to stop my involvement. I was "volunteering" about 60 hours a month and it was becoming too much, it was taking away from everything else important in my life. So I have spent numerous hours packing up the organization's stuff and getting it to their office. I feel like an enormous weight has been lifted from my shoulders! Now I can finally devote the time I want to my family,  the shop, shopping and me.

Article – Don't Get Scammed Online

The odds of being scammed, or robbed as I refer to it, online have risen dramatically.

The number of Internet users has mushroomed to the point that over 50% of American households have online access, and even the most remote and poverty-stricken nations have cyber-cafes in their major cities. In fact, some of the cleverest scams seem to originate in third-world countries, but they are certainly not exclusive to those locations.

Because so many collectors have turned to online auctions to sell and buy, I will focus on the most egregious frauds involving auction sites. The most popular and best-known of the online ….                                                                         Read the rest of this article

My adorable grand daughter turned 3 in December, when her Mom asked her what she wants to be when she grows up her reply was, "4." Don't you love it. Yes, I am a proud Granny.

Let me know what you are interested in learning more about. I have started posting informative short little articles of interest on the Home Page of my website and I want them to be of interest to you.

Since today is Valentines Day I thought that you might find this article interesting.

The Oldest Known Valentines Day Message

The script dates back to 1477. The oldest known Valentine's Day message in the English language was uncovered by the British Library.

The message was written in Norfolk more than 500 years ago. It was originally bought by the library as part of a collection of papers from a family called Paston in the 1930s. But it was only rediscovered last year. ….                                    Read the rest of this article

The 10% discount will run for another 2 weeks so be sure to drop by and browse.

Thank you very much for your patronage and friendship. Here's to a healthy and happy 2004.
