My Granny's Attic Antiques, Collectibles & Custom Gifts
Shop News - Fall 2004

Here we go into the holiday season. This year I am looking forward to the holidays for the first time in quite sometime. I don't know what is different this year than in years past I just have more of the joyful spirit. To those of you that will spend the holidays with loved ones away from home please know that our prayers are with them and with you. If your loved one has a need I would be more than happy to post it on my website, send me your contact information and a list of the items needed and I will get it up for you. There are over 5 million people a month that visit my website and I know that most of them are very caring people.

I want to say thank you to each of you for visiting the shop this past year. I so enjoy visiting with you whether through email or on the phone. As a thank you - SALE COUPON – TAKE 10% OFF OF YOUR PURCHASE IN THE SHOP THROUGH 11/30/04  WITH THIS CODE XXXXXXX - Everyone who makes a purchase between now and December 11, using this code, will be entered into a drawing for a $20.00 gift certificate from the shop. The drawing will take place on December 12, 2004. GOOD LUCK!  The winner will be notified by email of their win.

Life here at the old homestead has been really exciting lately. My youngest daughter turned 16 in August. My husband and I found that perfect car, meaning she liked it and we could afford it. The only hitch is that it is a stick shift. We spent months teaching her to drive with the stick and on August 17…. She was on her own. She does a good job driving but I miss her, I don't see her as much as I used to. Please, would each of you say a small pray for us. I was not this nervous when my oldest started driving. Maybe I am beginning to feel the nest getting empty. My baby is growing up. As for my adorable granddaughter Kaya, she will be 4 on December 27. She is my love. She is taking dance classes through her Charter School and her first recital is coming up soon…. I can't wait.

Recipe:

Banana Nut Bread Baked in a Jar  - This makes a great gift for friends and neighbors. Using the same basic recipe you can substitute different fruits and vegetables to make other varieties. Yields: 8 pint jars

Ingredients: * 2/3 cup shortening * 2 2/3 cups white sugar * 4 eggs * 2 cups bananas, mashed * 2/3 cup water * 3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour * 1/2 teaspoon baking powder * 2 teaspoons baking soda * 1 1/2 teaspoons salt * 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon * 1 teaspoon ground cloves * 2/3 cup chopped pecans

1. Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs, bananas, and water. 2. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves. Add to banana mixture. Stir in nuts. Pour mixture into greased WIDE MOUTH pint jars, filling 1/2 full of batter. Do NOT put lids on jars for baking. 3. Bake at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) about 45 minutes. 4. When done, remove one jar at a time from the oven. Clean sealing edge with paper towel or cloth and screw lid on firmly. The heat will vacuum seal the jar and make it keep one year. Substitutes for banana: 2 cups shredded apples or carrots; 1 bag whole fresh cranberries, ground; 1 can whole cranberry sauce; 1 3/4 cups applesauce plus 1/4 cup pineapple; 1 3/4 cups applesauce plus 1/4 cup raisins; 2 cups canned pumpkin; 2 cups apricots; 2 cups zucchini.

If I don't have it I now have a database to better organize and track the items you are looking for. E-mail me http://www.mygrannysatticantiques.com/html/vintage_books.htm

Books have always been one of my passions so I thought that this was an appropriate topic for an article. Send me your ideas and maybe I can write on it too.

Avoiding the Pitfalls of Book Collecting

It has been centuries since anyone could afford to be a general collector of books. Money aside, there is simply too many volumes published, 52,000 last year alone, in any single year for a collector to acquire a copy of everything issued. To maintain some semblance of control over a book collection, a beginning book collector must should pick an area of special interest in which to start acquiring books.     Read the rest of this article

Great websites I have run across recently:

Stump the Chump – A name that tune type website http://mickwhite.org/chumpville/

Beautiful Antique Christmas Ornaments to Ogle - http://www.ornament.ch/christbaumschmuck.php

**EXCITING NEWS** Quite a few of my vintage pixie elves and shoe figurines were purchased by a production company in London for a Disney movie that is being filmed. I don't know the name of the movie yet but when I do I will let you know.

I would love to hear your ideas on articles for future newsletters. I am going to make an all out effort to get this out once a month or atleast every other month.

Thank you very much for your patronage and friendship. Here's to safe and joyful Holiday Season!

Sincerely,

Michelle
