This is an amazing antique ironstone or white granite ware pitcher. At one time it probably had a basin but alas, it is long gone or at least separated from the pitcher. It is marked Ironstone China Warranted and has the British Royal Coat of Arms mark. Has crazing and there is some staining There is a teeny tiny hairline in the rim on the side of the spout (you can see it in the photo), it is about 1/4" long and does not go
all the way through the piece, it in no way detracts from the wonder and beauty of this piece. It measures 13" at the tallest point and the bulbous center is 8" in diameter. I have not been able to determine who made this piece. The shield has the mottos but there is something written in the band around the shield. Under the Coat are two stars. I will continue to search and post the answer. I do believe it is British made, circa post-1837. You can see a small line on
the rim, to me it does not look like a crack it just melds into the crazing but due to this and the staining I have taken about $50.00 off of the price of this wonderful antique ironstone pitcher. |
