I am trying to help my parents identify the attached item. My Dad bought a set of six at a flea market

It is 6 inches tall, the bottom diameter is 3 3/8ths inches and tapers to approximately 2 1/2 inches. The ball at the top is about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.

It looks somewhat like a mortar as in mortar and pestle.....
Is the inside of the bell part hollow or solid?

It's hollow like a bell, but there is nowhere on the inside to attach anything. There are no scratch marks that I think would be there if it was used as as a mortar or pestle.
