I am so sorry that I asked this question in the wrong link the first time, and I guess I got deleted. I am new to this site and stupid me didn't notice the correct site for identifying marks until after I had posted it in the wrong one first. I am sure you are tired of us messing things up and I am sorry to have caused you such a hassle. Please let me try this again, since I am new to the internet thing and I am learning as I go, so unfortunately I make mistakes as I go too. I am trying to learn about identifying antiques and finding it extremly hard. But sites like this are simply wonderful and are very helpful for us new learners. To have access to all of you out there that have so much knowledge and experience to share with us is just great!

What I am trying to find out is the maker of the marks "USA". I bought an ash tray and matching dish with a lid at a garage sale last weekend. They are a light aqua blue with gold speckled paint in them. On the bottom is engraved USA 1040B and USA 1040C on the dish and lid and I think it is an USA 1040E on the ash tray. I have looked in the books I have and on several sites, but haven't found anything that has just the USA mark. I know McCoy marks with USA but don't they always have they're other trademarks with it? Anyone with any info on this would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to learn this business about identifying antques, and finding it extremly hard, but sites like this are sure great!

Thanks- Pam from Kansas  Smiley

Some early McCoy items were marked with USA and a good book on McCoy Pottery will help you find your item or eliminate McCoy. Also some potteries in California used the USA mark.

Visiting antique shops and online antique shops will help you learn to identify the different styles and colors used by the various pottery factories.

Thanks for visiting the forum and I noticed you are in Kansas please drop by the store if you are in the Lenexa area. I am at 9230 Pflumm Rd. We have a free antique reference library here in the shop too.
