This may sound silly but I have taken items up to a local Chinese restaurant for them to translate items for me.  There is an old and a new Chinese dialect and it is often times hard to find the exact marks other than in a book on Oriental Wares. You might be able to find this book at your library but the one I have has been out of print for quite a few years.
